Emu Birds - Ranching

People find this industry very rewarding and easy to enter. Emus require little land and they are very sufficient feeders. Emus adapt to cold climate and can be successfully raised in countries like Canada. They are gentle and easy to keep. Plus, emus are environmentally friendly and can restore damaged land.

Emu Birds - Diet

In the wild Emu birds feed on fruits, flowers, insects, small vertebrates, green vegetation, especially young shoots and seeds. Emu birds do not eat dry grass and yellow leaves, even if it is the only food that is available. They swallow large stones and charcoal to aid in their digestive process.

Emu Birds - Behavior

Emu birds are very strong, endurable and fast moving. They can reach the speed of 50 km/h and swim very good. They communicate with the help of loud booming sounds. Emus have to move often, because the food is not always available. When food is abundant, an Emu-bird stores large amounts of fat, and it is able to use these stores of fat while looking for more food. Emu-birds pattern their movements around places where rain has recently fallen.
